Weight Watchers Is Helping My Family’s Will Power

August 28th, 2008

I hadn’t talked to my mother and sister in quite a while.  Yeah Yeah I know shame on you for not calling your mom more often.  It’s just been a bit busy at work etc..  Anyway I have continued to work on losing weight and exercising more.  Haven’t started to tackle quitting smoking yet but have cut back quite a bit.  The funny thing is that When I was talking to my mother this evening and told her I was trying to get myself in better physical condition she mentioned that her and my sister had both been going to weight watchers.

Now I’m not one to spend tons of money to help me lose weight or get in shape.  I used to be fairly athletic and know what it takes to get it done, I just lack the will power.  Anyway, mom informed me that over the last few months she had lost over 20 lbs and my sister has lost 35 pounds.  I was quite impressed and had always thought weight watchers was a joke or money grabbing scam, but it seems to be working pretty good for them.  They said the biggest advantage to going to the weight watchers facility was having someone else help to motivate them to lose weight.  So if you looking for alternative to help keep you motivated about losing weight or getting physically fit you might benefit from a program like weight watcher or other health and fitness program.

Weight Loss Progress Report

August 1st, 2008

Well It’s only been a couple days since I started working on exercising and losing weight so there has been little progress as far as the scale is concerned.  I have however stayed on track with my walking and starting to exercise and hopefully within a couple weeks will start to see some weight loss.  I’m not looking for anything drastic as far as the weight loss is concerned just a small indication that that the exercise is starting to work would suffice.  I will say that starting the exercise has helped me sleep a little better at night as I usually take my walks late in the evening well after dinner.  One of the leading causes to gaining weight i’ve been told is eating late and heading straight to bed, which was one of my old habits.  I’ve also started to change my eating habits to help with the weight loss.  I’m eating 3 meals a day instead of just 1 big meal late in the evening.  It may not be a big change but hopefully it will start to change my metabolism so that I burn more calories through the course of the day.  I’ve done quite a bit of looking on the weight loss websites most are pitching weight loss pills, fad diets or the new weight loss exercise gizmo but there have been several out there with some really good weight loss tips.  Well time for that walk yak later

First Steps Towards Good Health

July 29th, 2008

Well I started my long journey towards good health.  Actually just making it to decent health would probably be an improvement.  No I didn’t give up the cigarettes or fatty foods yet, but I did start to do some exercise.  I’ve started taking a nightly walk around the block with my wife and daughter in attempts to lose some weight.  I know it doesn’t sound like much but walking a mile a night is burning more calories than I would If I was sitting on the sofa drinking a beer.  I wasn’t quite up to jogging so my wife and daughter did that after I completed my laps around the neighborhood.  What’s amazing is that in my youth I was in great health. I was a wrestler, cross-country runner and played baseball all through high school.  Wow looking back at it I’ve really let my self go :)  I doubt I’ll ever be in good enough shape again to run cross-country but perhaps I can shed enought pounds to bend over and field a softball or two.  Anyway its a first step towards improving my health and losing weight.  More updates to come as I catch my breath. LOL

How To Gain Will Power To Lose Weight

July 22nd, 2008

I’ve been contemplating the whole weight loss issue and how I’m going motivate my self to eat right, and exercise more when I decided that asking others how they did it might be a good place to start.  I have a co-worker that used to weigh over 250 pounds and in about a year he has dropped to a slim fit 150 pounds.  Not only has he lost 100 pounds of excess weight but he is now running marathons on a regular basis.  I figured if anyone could give me advice on how to begin to lose weight and maintain the will power to stick with it he would be the one I could ask.

After talking with him I discovered that he went through an intense weight loss program sponsored by the local hospital that was covered by our health insurance program.  His weight loss program consisted of an initial 6 week liquid diet , exercise program and weekly physicals by the doctors administering his weight loss program.  Unlike him I’m not quite that heavy yet but if I don’t change my lifestyle I can see myself getting there.  Now I’m not sure i’m thrilled with the idea of a 6 week liquid diet as I love to eat!!!  I might be better off just changing my eating habits by cutting out sweets, fatty foods and stick with more low cal type items like veggies.  YUCKKK   I hate veggies but I know fruits and vegetables will have to be a huge part of my diet if I plan on avoiding that weight loss program that consists of  a  week liquid diet.  I really cant imagine drinking my breakfast, lunch and dinner but hey different strokes for different folks I guess.

Help My Daughter Wants To Motivate Me

July 19th, 2008

Oh crap the cat is out of the bag.  I was hoping to keep this little site all to my own to help motivate me to quit my bad habits and get a bit healthier without any outside pressure from family or friends. Well that plan is completely ruined.  My daughter walked up to my computer while I was away and started reading my site and is now all excited to motivate, push and brow beat me to death to help give me the will power to loose weight, quit smoking and start exercising.  If I know here she’s sitting in her room now creating a workout schedule, healthy diet and looking up tips on how to quit smoking.  Just what I didn’t need, but oh well I guess a little outside help to get me motivated to change my lifestyle won’t hurt that much.  I better break out the Bengay, ice packs and stash my smokes where she can’t find them.

Lacking Will Power Where To Start

July 19th, 2008

As you can see by my previous post I have many bad habits and things about myself that I would like to correct.  Now where exactly do I start.  I’ve sat here at my computer thinking about it and have come to the conclusion that my main goal is to loose weight.  I figure in the process of losing weight I will have to tackle all the bad habits I have and over come them to achieve my ultimate goal of losing weight and living a longer healthier life.   Obviously there are a few things I’ll need to address, like how to go about losing weight when I lack will power and motivation, lol.  I started this morning by looking at a few sites with weight loss products that could help me along the way.  I’ll probably do some more research to find out what the best weight loss product is for me and how to best use it.  Men generally have an easier time loosing weight than women but with my smoking , lack of exercise and general lazy attitude I’ll probably need some outside help from a few of these weight loss products to help me achieve my goals.  As I experiment and come across new ideas to help men lose weight I’ll pass along my findings to my readers so that they can benefit from my research as well. I’m definately not going to do anything crazy like eat subway for a year but besides diets there are many products that can help with my smoking, excercise and weightloss goals

Welcome To Lacking Will Power

July 18th, 2008

I decided to make lacking will power to help motivate me to fix a few things that I believe that are wrong with my life.  If you couldn’t tell I lack will power to do many of the things I would like to accomplish in the next few years.  Hopefully writing down my thoughts, information I find , and hopefully the progress towards achieving my goals will help me to over come this lack of will power.  I have several bad habits that I would like to quit including smoking and biting my nails.   I also lack the will power to live a heathier life.  I am an over weight , out of shape , fat middle aged man about to drop dead of a heart attack any day.  Well maybe not that bad but if you listen to my wife my extra weight, smoking and lack of exercise are sure to kill me any day.  I’d like to use this forum to put my self back on track to healthy living by loosing some wieght, starting an excercise program and improving my overall health.  Yeah I know this all sounds like a lot to accomplish just by blogging about it , but hopefully by experssing myself and presenting information to others about health, exercise, bad habits and obesity I might gain some will power to actually accomplish my goals.
